Business
Businesses and industries of all types have discovered that Front Royal-Warren County is the perfect place to thrive, with its skilled workforce, low cost to do business and central location. Businesses of all sizes have called Front Royal-Warren County home for years, and new businesses continue to come to the area. From manufacturing to distribution facilities, to health care and technology, businesses of all shapes and sizes are thriving in this Northern Shenandoah Valley area.
Employees of all skill sets contribute to a broad workforce. While technical, sales and administrative support are the major occupations in the area, managerial and professional and precision production jobs are also prevalent.
One of the largest area employers is E. I. DuPont. The DuPont plant produces finishes (paint) for the automobile aftermarket (collision/repair) and for some OEMs (Original Equipment Manufactures), such as heavy-duty trucks, RVs, campers and aircraft. This year the plant will produce in excess of 19 million gallons, which will result in the Front Royal plant becoming one of the largest paint-producing plants in North America. The success of the plant can be attributed to its “community competitive advantage,” a corporate concept that links business success to the community’s acceptance of DuPont as a good neighbor. DuPont’s favorable image in the community has facilitated the growth of the plant by allowing the plant to attract and retain an excellent workforce and by securing the community’s consent to operate in its neighborhood.
Another local business leader is Toray Plastics America Inc. This innovative automotive plastic foam company recently expanded in Front Royal, opening a $50 million PEF Division facility. Employing just under 200 local residents, Toray is on the cutting edge of technology for automotive interiors. Staying ahead of the competition requires dedicated employees and strong backing by local leaders; Toray has found both in Front Royal.
Location is a major influence in the success of any business, and Warren County’s is ideal. Operating in Warren County, the Virginia Inland Port is an intermodal container transfer facility acting as the -interface between truck and rail for the Port of Virginia. Here, trucks bring ocean-bound containers for immediate loading on rail cars or for short-term storage. Containers also arrive daily by rail from the Port of Virginia to be loaded on waiting trucks and shipped throughout the country.
