Living
In Style
The Northern Allegheny County region is a hilly, wooded and
ever-growing area. Yet, there is still quiet farmland surrounding
the area. Comfortable living, quiet and friendly neighborhoods
and the tranquil scenery of local parks is what makes this area
one of the fastest growing, and most favorable suburbs in which
to live.
Outstanding school districts, peaceful surroundings and close
proximity to downtown Pittsburgh is what draws families to the
area. Everywhere you turn, new construction is taking place
to meet the demand for living in this area.
The variety of housing available ranges from mansion-style homes,
to apartment complexes and condominium living. The North Hills
caters to every budget and every lifestyle imaginable.
Having one of the highest senior populations in the country,
we take very good care of our elders as well. Bigger and better
senior living facilities that cater to every imaginable need
are being built, as the need continues to grow. |
Access
To The Arts
Northern Allegheny County has excellent access to the arts and
cultural events, both locally and in the Pittsburgh area. Classes
in the arts, including dance, painting, sculpture, writing and
poetry may be taken at the North Hills Art Center, Sweetwater
Art Center in Sewickley, La Roche College and the North Campus
of the Community College of Allegheny County. La Roche College
even features an annual film artists festival.
In the summer, catch outdoor performances throughout the North
Hills area. Hartwood Acres is a 629-acre estate park, owned
and operated by Allegheny County. Hartwoods scenic outdoor
setting offers free concerts by groups such as the Duquesne
Tamburitzans, Pittsburgh Symphony and Pittsburgh Opera; as well
as other dance, jazz and musical groups. Another feature at
Hartwood Acres - polo matches played on the grounds. Visitors
are encouraged to pack picnic lunches and dinners, and to go
early.
Hartwood Acres also offers a 16th century style mansion, designed
in 1929, showcasing a fine collection of original English and
American antiques, and encompassing beautiful gardens which
are ideal for taking a scenic troll. Guests may also visit the
farm and stable complex, or hike and horseback rides along its
wooded trails. During the Christmas holiday season, Hartwood
Acres boasts one of the biggest Festival of Lights
displays in the area.
In September, North Park is transformed into an 18th century
setting for the Penns Colony Festival. This is a family
event featuring 230 exhibitors, up to 1,200 period performers,
re-enactors, craftspeople and apprentices dressed in colonial
costume. |
