St.
James Mercy Health System
For wellness
or illness, St. James Mercy Health brings the best in education and
care to the residents of Hornell. This 21st-century health care system
features services tailored specifically for individuals of all ages,
as well as families, groups and companies. Inpatient or outpatient,
emergency or chronic, treatment or prevention Ñ the staff stands ready
to serve in all areas.
St.
James Mercy Health began more than 100 years ago in a local farmhouse.
Today it is a full-service provider and a member of one of the country's
largest health care systems, Catholic Health East. This connection helps
bring even more resources, skills and services to residents of the Southern
Tier.
For
those with immediate needs for care, the hospital provides both inpatient
and outpatient services with the most current imaging equipment and
a 24-hour emergency department, as well as surgical and intensive care.
Behavioral health services include alcohol rehabilitation, adult and
adolescent psychiatry, and a psychiatric day treatment program. Maternity
services are an added benefit for area families.
Primary
care, through Southern Tier Health Associates, gives residents access
to more than 25 health care providers, including physicians, nurse practitioners
and physician assistants. Express Care Center, Rural Health Care Clinics
and Crandall Health Center at Alfred University extend the same quality
care throughout the county. Specialized care includes a kidney dialysis
unit, medical and radiation oncology, a sleep study lab, a cardiac catheterization
unit, and cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation.
When
it comes to prevention and wellness, St. James Mercy Health hosts several
support groups and educational programs each month. Area businesses
and industries benefit from its on-site programs, including back safety,
drug testing and health screenings. Cancer screenings and healthy heart
initiatives are offered in cooperation with the Wellness Council of
the Southern Tier.
McAuley
Manor at MercyCare boasts the recent completion of a major expansion,
the newest addition to services offered by the system. This facility
now provides long-term care for 120 residents, including programs for
Alzheimer's, dementia, and ventilator-dependent patients needing special
care, as well as short-term rehabilitation patients. On-site physical
therapy, 24-hour nursing coverage and spiritual care are just a few
of the many benefits. The facility's neighborhood design, group activities,
beauty shop, and podiatric and dental care help make this an attractive
adult living arrangement.
Other
services St. James Mercy Health brings to the community are infant and
child day care, as well as opportunities for volunteering at the hospital.
Higher education students work and study at the hospital while pursuing
degrees in radiologic sciences and nursing. Community financial support
through the St. James Mercy Foundation enables the system to continue
to add and update services and equipment.
