Faith and Service
Upon entering Geneva, its deep spiritual roots are evident; the skyline is peaked with church spires. Trinity Church dates to 1806, and the Presbyterian Church of Geneva dates back even further. Bishop Hobart from the Diocese of New York first came to Geneva in 1822 to establish a college, now known as Hobart College.
Geneva experienced a religious revival in the latter part of the 19th century, during which time the community established another Presbyterian church, two Episcopal churches and two Roman Catholic churches; a Baptist church soon followed. Today, Geneva’s spiritual composition is even more diverse. The city is home to Jewish, Lutheran, Methodist and Orthodox houses of worship, which reflect the increasingly diverse population they serve.
