Located
in the southeast portion of the state, Carlsbads four moderate
seasons certainly surpass the fair-weather test.
Summertime highs are tempered by low humidity,
and winter snow is an unusual and brief affair. Brilliant sunshine lavishes
the city 350 days a year, which makes outdoor activities an attractive
opportunity for year-round fun.
Carlsbad remains a clean-air locality in the
21st century. Visibility normally reaches 40 to 50 miles, which makes
the Guadalupe Mountains to the far southwest seem astonishingly pure
and beautiful.
The citys dry, clean air offers wonderful
relief to those suffering from emphy-sema, sinus problems, bronchitis,
asthma and arthritis.
Carlsbad resides in a beautiful, fertile valley amidst stunning, high-desert
plains. Its location is naturally blessed with healthy mineral waters
and the clear and peaceful Pecos River. Municipal water is drawn from
deep artesian wells, and the citys abundant water supply is a
refreshing luxury among southwestern states.
Residents appreciate the towns plethora
of green and shady spaces, and often showcase exquisite gardens of their
own.
The scenic Pecos River provides a festive oasis
for many neighborhood events and community celebrations.
Carlsbad is accessible by several state and
US Highways, including US 285 and US 62/180. Bus service through Greyhound
is also available.
Cavern City Air Terminal is serviced by Mesa
Airlines, whose flights connect to Albuquerque. Albuquerque International
Sunport is about a 4-1/2-hour drive away; both Midland/Odessa Regional
Airport and El Paso International Airport are approximately 2-1/2 hours
to the east and west, respectively.
The Carlsbad Transit System is another commendable
city service. It provides transportation anywhere within the city limits
for a nominal fee. Operating hours are between 6:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Monday through Friday.
