St. Francis Hospital, founded in Maryville in 1894 by the Sisters of St. Francis, provides excellent quality health care for the region. The hospital still under the sponsorship of the Franciscan Sisters and its corporate parent, SSM Health Care System, maintains the philosophy established at its founding by Mother Mary Augustine Giesen. St. Francis Hospital & Health Services include an 81-bed acute care facility, emergency care facility, out-patient specialty clinics and physician clinics. The hospital employs 370 employees with twenty on-staff physicians serving the community. The hospital provides ambulatory services, emergency care, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, mammography, obstetrics, imaging, laboratory services, physical therapy, orthopedic surgery, out-patient specialty clinics, sports medicine and mental health services. It has state of the art equipment in MRI, nuclear medicine and echocardiography housed in a recently developed part of the hospital.
