This diversity contributes to a stable economy and is testimony to the efforts of civic leaders to create a rich, stable community.

In total, there are many forces at work to attract businesses to the community and promote and support those already here.

The efforts of the Maryville Industrial Development Corporation helped attract Kawasaki to town in 1989, and earlier, NEBS and the
Energizer’s facility.

In addition, Nodaway County Economic Development, Inc., is a driving force to attract more business to the area. These efforts are in conjunction and with the support of the Greater Maryville Chamber of Commerce, a group which also works to educate the public about the benefits of shopping in the local community. These efforts to communicate and provide information about opportunities to potential new businesses is supported by the City of Maryville government and the Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Governments.

Local businesses benefit from the presence of Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. In particular, the University’s Small Business Development Center offers one-on-one counseling, educational programs, conferences and workshops to area business owners
and entrepreneurs.

Transportation is a major key to the community’s economic health and it continues to improve with the construction of a four-lane divided Highway 71 from Maryville south to link with Interstates 29 and 229. The City is served by package delivery services and motor freight carriers while barge, Missouri River port and rail service are available less than 50 miles away.

Excellent financial services are located in Maryville through Bank Midwest, Citizens Bank and Trust, U.S. Bank Corporation and Nodaway Valley Bank.

The Greater Maryville Chamber of Commerce administers a multi-faceted campaign to promote local and area business and transportation improvements. Employers find in Maryville a skilled dedicated work force; a University supportive of local business development; the Northwest Technical School which provides highly skilled technical and professional employees; and a city government extending a hand of cooperation to nurture new enterprises.

The Maryville Treatment Center is a state-owned, minimum security correctional facility designed to provide educational and societal mainstreaming programs to its residents.

In short, Maryville has healthy business, employment opportunities as well as economic support services. For more information contact: www.missourivacation.org, www.maryvillemo.org and www.nwmissouri.edu.
