Boonville’s pioneers were proud and skilled craftsmen,
and much of what they built stands today. Hundreds of homes reflect ornate
architectural styles including Italianate, Vernacular, Missouri German,
Gothic Revival, Classic Revival, Bungalow, Queen Anne, Box, Victorian
and Classic.
These magnificent historic structures are a constant reminder about the
community’s heritage. Massive columns, delicate wrought iron, summer
kitchens, walnut staircases and handsome interior woodwork reflect the
high style and elegant grandeur of historic homes in Boonville. Houses
in early Boonville were made of brick, because it was manufactured locally.
Well-kept older homes overlook the Missouri River. Hard maple trees line
the streets, filling the gently rolling terrain with abundant shade in
spring and summer and an explosion of color in autumn.
Subdivisions offer a choice of contemporary styles while continuing the
tradition of quality. Depending upon the location, building codes may
require brick veneer on the front and both
sides of a house. Construction of duplex and apartment units has been
vigorous, too. All this variety means there is affordable housing for
almost any budget. Listings include modern homes in all price ranges as
well as historic homes. Local real estate agencies will be happy to help
anyone who is in the market.
Attractive interest rates are part of the Boonville housing picture; and
because of the diversity of jobs, the unemployment rate has remained relatively
low. Taxes and utility rates are quite reasonable. AmerenUE and Co-Mo
Electric supply electricity. AmerenUE is also a natural gas supplier.
Water and sewer services and garbage collection are provided by the city.
Several private sources provide bottled and bulk liquefied petroleum.
A spirit of volunteerism helps this warm and inviting community of more
than 8,000 citizens thrive. Boonville churches and schools encourage citizen
involvement. More than 60 organizations — including traditional
service clubs, sororities, fraternities, support groups, clubs, boards,
councils, troops and societies — prosper here. Full-service and
trained volunteers provide fire protection.
The locally published Boonville Daily News keeps area residents well-informed.
Daily newspapers from Kansas City, Columbia and St. Louis offer home delivery
in the Boonville area. More than 50 cable channels and network television
stations provide local, national and international programming. Tune in
to local AM radio and listen to KWRT’s Ted B and Sharon Korte. They
will bring you up-to-date on the news, weather, sports and just about
everything that you need to know. Ted may even sing “Happy Birthday”
for you upon request! More than a dozen other stations can be heard on
the AM and FM bands.
