Downtown Boonville, Inc., the Boonville Area Chamber
of Commerce and the City of Boonville have joined to ensure the revitalization
and expansion of Boonville’s thriving downtown business district.
Design, organization, promotion and restructuring are the keys to this
program, which began as a Missouri Main Street project. The goal is to
secure downtown Boonville’s future while preserving its past.
Boonville’s downtown merchants are proud of the pleasant, friendly
atmosphere they have created. Shoppers will find everything from antiques,
appliances and banks to restaurants, tires and video rentals in stores
whose architecture reflects the community’s history. The quaint
electric light standards along the street resemble period gaslights. Refurbished
brickwork along the curbs adds authenticity to a historic park that has
the oldest paved street west of St. Louis. A mural at the north end of
Main Street depicts historical stages of development in the Boonville
area.
Merchants generate enthusiasm in the business sector with such community-wide
events as the Big Muddy Folk Festival, held at the old Thespian Hall;
Boonville Heritage Days; and the Festival of Leaves and Pork Fest. Residents
and visitors enjoy special activities on most major holidays and occasions.
