Because of a strong and varied economic base, the commercial scene in Sturgis is healthy. Sturgis’ excellent location has drawn entrepreneurs to establish a wide assortment of small, locally owned shops and large national chain stores, providing a fulfilling shopping experience.

The excitement rises as Sturgis’ commercial sector grows. Available commercial and industrial sites in the city allow for further expansion, causing a broader outreach of goods and services and making Sturgis’ property a prime value.

Sturgis offers shopping opportunities from one end of the city to the other, including four main plazas: the Sturgis Plaza, Plaza South, Tower Plaza and Maplecrest Plaza. Each plaza has its own unique stores, allowing for convenient, satisfying shopping. Well-known names such as Kmart, Kroger, Sam Goodie, Wal-Mart Supercenter, Hallmark, Radio Shack, Walgreens and Fashion Bug can be found in and around these plazas, as well as local name stores such as Cottin’s Hardware, Miller’s Super Valu and Sugar Shack.

Another benefit of a day of shopping in Sturgis is the large assortment of restaurants from which to choose. A vast selection of cuisine is available, with taste-tempting foods to appease even the most discriminating pallet. Throughout the city can be found assorted ethnic restaurants serving Chinese, Mexican and Italian foods. Specialty restaurants, with local names such as Pipers, DaVinci’s, The Dragon Buffet, Marias, El Aguila, Edmund Montgomeries, and Welch’s Steak and Ribs, tempt the most particular connoisseur. Familiar names in food chains are also available, including Arby’s, McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Subway, Blimpie, Papa John’s Pizza, Applebee’s and Taco Bell.

Sturgis is also fortunate to have several hotels and automobile dealerships, as well as professional services that include banks, accountants, doctors covering every health need, lawyers and other professionals.

The Sturgis downtown area features unique shops where virtually anything can be found. Enticing businesses such as Fiebig Jewelry; Great Lakes Chocolate; Willer’s Shoes; Central Florist and Tuxedos; Cheryl & Friends; The Open Door Art Gallery; and Chicago Road Cyclery line Chicago Road (U.S. 12) as it travels down the center of downtown Sturgis. The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) works tirelessly, encouraging new and distinctive businesses to set up shop in the downtown area. The DDA offers a variety of incentives to encourage such growth.

The incentives and hometown atmosphere are so tempting that each year finds more shops opening and gives more reasons for shoppers to stay right here in Sturgis.

The Sturgis Economic Development Corporation, created in 1974, was set up to oversee low-interest loans to new or expanding businesses and industries; as a result, many businesses are coming to Sturgis.

Speaking of honey, you can find that, too, along with specialty soaps and lotions, superb chocolates and coffees, art work, books, clothes, furniture, and appliances.
