Middletown
is dedicated to serving its people and promoting the community. The
city functions under a Commission form of Government, led by the Mayor
and four Commissioners, all elected officials. Regular City Meetings
are held at City Hall on the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 pm.
Of course, the public is invited to attend. The Mayor and Commissioners
are dedicated to its residents and businesses, keeping Middletown a
great place to live and work.
Middletown is also governed under the Jefferson County Government, led
by a County Judge Executive and Com-missioners, all nominated by district
and elected countywide, holding office for four years. The Judge Executive
and magistrates lead the government structure with the help of a county
attorney, county clerk, auditor, treasurer, district court judge and
a sheriffs department.
In 2003 Jefferson County Government and the City of Louisville will
merge to form our new Metro Louisville government with twenty-six
district councils. A council person will be elected for each district
as well as the new position of Mayor of Greater Louisville.
The Middletown Fire Protection District is made up of 25 volunteer and
31 career firefighters, both male and female. The Fire Protection District
has two modern fire stations, 5 engines, a 102 aerial ladder truck,
a fully equipped rescue truck, a tanker truck, one field fire unit and
seven service vehicles. The team and fleet of equipment can be ready
within minutes to serve those in need. Additional information can be
obtained on this state of the art department on the Internet at www.middletown-fire.org.
Fire insurance rates in the Louisville East-Middletown area are less,
due to the high standards and state rating of the Middletown Fire Protection
District.
