Jeffersontown Senior Citizens Center
From Cards to Computers to Dancing, Not Your Typical Senior Center
The Jeffersontown Senior Citizens Center brings together caring people and an active community. It’s all you would want from a senior citizens’ center and more.

Built in 1910 and named in honor of Mayor Daniel H. Ruckriegel, the center was Ruckriegel’s vision for a quality community center for Jeffersontown. The historic building has been totally renovated by the City of Jeffersontown to meet the needs of area senior citizens. Seniors between the ages of 55 and 99 come here throughout the week for fellowship and activities. They share good food and stories and often learn new skills. Activities include a gym, open daily for walking; Saturday night dances; afternoon dances; computer classes; a pinochle club; free tax services offered by AARP; and a number of other activities, programs and services tailored for senior citizens.

The facilities include a kitchen-dining room; a meeting room with plush furniture and a fireplace; a card and activity room; a 4,200-square-foot ballroom for dances, entertainment and parties; a computer classroom; a craft and sewing room; an exercise and fitness room; a facility for haircuts; a quilt room; and offices. The Center is open five days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and offers 75 programs and activities. A comprehensive calendar of events is printed the first of each month. Transportation to and from the center is available.

The Senior Citizens program is well-known throughout the region for offering a variety of activities, programs and services, and has been noted as a model center by other cities across the country. The mayor, city council members, community businesses and churches have given full support to the center and Jeffersontown seniors. Many donations and wonderful volunteers make this center a great place for seniors and a model for communities nationwide.
