Fully modern, 24-hour
emergency room care is available at The Galena-Stauss hospital. In
conjunction with Galena Medical Associates Clinic and Galena Health
Clinic, The Galena-Stauss Hospital provides easy access to quality
medical services.
The Galena-Stauss
Hospital & Healthcare Center (GSHHC) is comprised of a 25-bed critical
access hospital with an attached medical office building, a 57-bed
skilled nursing facility, a 24-apartment assisted living center, an
adult day care center, and a physical therapy and fitness center.
GSHHC operates as a not-for-profit, municipal corporation hospital
district and is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors appointed
by the Jo Daviess County Board of Directors. The hospital offers laboratory
service, x-ray, ultrasound, cardiac rehabilitation, and physical and
speech therapies. In addition, orthopedic and urology specialists
from Dubuque hospitals travel to Galena each month.
The Galena-Stauss
Nursing Care Facility houses a 57-bed, long-term skilled nursing home.
An assisted- living facility composed of 12 apartments accommodates
those in need of more independent nursing care. The campus also includes
an adult daycare program.
Another community
health care option is the Galena Health Clinic, an affiliate of the
158-bed Finley Hospital in Dubuque, which offers an alternative to
the hospital through comprehensive services. Furthermore, the Galena
Medical Associates Clinic collaborates with GSHHC to provide more
complete laboratory and ancillary services. The Medical Associates
Clinic developed the tri-state's first health maintenance organization,
Medical Associates Health Plans. Emphasizing health promotion and
early detection of illness, Medical Associates Health Plans brings
a full range of health benefits to area employers as well as to Medicare
enrollees in eastern Iowa, southwest Wisconsin and northwest Illinois.
Medical Associates Clinic is also involved with community health education,
promoting and hosting monthly programs on a variety of issues.
Together with ambulance
stations in Elizabeth, Hanover and Galena, these medical facilities
provide emergency services to all of Jo Daviess County.
