Montgomery County Memorial Hospital

Founded in 1920 as Red Oak Hospital by Dr. B.F. Gillmor, Montgomery County Memorial Hospital (MCMH) has enjoyed a long and strong relationship with Red Oak and Montgomery County. The present hospital, opened in 1989 and expanded with the addition of the Physicians Center in 1993, is a fully modern facility with private rooms and state-of-the-art treatments and services. MCMH is truly the health care leader in southwest Iowa.

While Montgomery County Memorial Hospital can boast a wide range of patient services, certain specialties receive extra-special treatment. The MCMH Women’s Health Center provides comprehensive, specialized care tailored specifically for women’s health needs. From gynecological and obstetrical services to overall women’s health, MCMH Women’s Health Care staff provide compassionate care.

The arrival of a new baby is one of life’s most important occasions, and moms, dads and newborns receive the personal, warm care this special occasion merits at The Birthing Center at MCMH. Private birthing rooms with state-of-the-art equipment, including fetal monitoring, ensure that every special delivery occurs in an environment that’s safe and secure for both parents and baby.

Montgomery County Memorial Hospital’s care for patients does not end on the day of discharge. MCMH Heartland Home Health staff members offer continued care and support for patients at home with 24-hour nurse-on-call services. Professional staff, including registered nurses; physical, occupational and speech therapists; home health aides; and medical social service workers strive to help smooth the road to a full recovery.

Heartland Hospice provides ­comfort, care and support for those with life-­limiting illnesses from all across southwest Iowa. Professional caregivers and specially trained volunteers provide end-of-life services, including bereavement and spiritual counseling, to individuals and families. If hospice care is needed in the hospital, a comfort suite is available for the client and family.

MCMH also provides a full range of rehabilitation services. Trained professionals can assist with cardiac, pulmonary, speech, occupational and physical therapies.

Patients with chronic illnesses such as asthma and diabetes can receive ­treatment and assistance with coping with their conditions on a daily basis through case management services offered by MCMH. The MCMH Diabetes Center provides education and support for persons with diabetes and is recognized by the American Diabetes Association. Ongoing classes teach diabetes patients how to live well through exercise, medication management and nutrition.

Assisted Living and Skilled Care Facilities

Red Oak Good Samaritan Center has 88 skilled nursing beds and an 18-bed unit devoted to the care of Alzheimer’s residents. Special areas for visiting family members, a courtyard with gardens, centralized computer and Internet access, and the unique care of a Christian community are important facets of resident life here.

Red Oak Rehab & Care Center, with 58 beds, gives residents needing special health treatment an active, enjoyable lifestyle with convenience. Dietary services ensure delicious and nutritious meals, while full-time activities services keep residents engaged and busy. Red Oak Rehab also offers its residents the convenience of serving many medical needs on site. Occupational, physical and speech therapies; physician services; pharmacy; podiatry; and nursing are all provided right at the center, while others, like dental services, laboratory and X-ray are coordinated at off-site facilities.

Part of the Ecumen family of senior living and care facilities, Arlington Place of Red Oak offers assisted living services that include meals, housekeeping, medication reminders and assistance with personal care. Staff is on site 24 hours, and residents have access to an emergency call and response system. All residents enjoy access to enriching entertainment, recreation and learning opportunities.
