The majority of Englewood residents are served by Englewood Public Schools, with some areas of the city served by Cherry Creek, Littleton and Sheridan public school districts. Students also have the opportunity to attend excellent private schools.

Englewood Schools residents have found the “best kept secret in the Denver metro area,” according to one newspaper account. Within this small setting, teachers are able to personalize learning to the needs of each student. Every student and every family is valued.

The citizens in Englewood recently showed their support for education and Englewood schools by voting to limit the size of all kindergarten through 3rd grade classes to 20 students or less. This mandate allows educators to address the individual needs of each young child at a time that is most critical to his learning, thus insuring that no student falls through the cracks.

Classrooms in Englewood Schools are well equipped, safe and comfortable. The community approved a bond referendum that has positioned the district to renew technology in each school on a frequent cycle. It also provides telephones in each classroom for safety, and air conditioning in all schools for comfort. To further insure the safety of our schools, the Englewood Department of Safety Services has guaranteed a response time of 180 seconds or less to every school in the district.

The school district offers a full range of services: a nationally accredited Early Childhood Education program; five small, intimate elementary schools; three middle school programs: two traditional schools (one a recent National Blue Ribbon Award winner) and a small setting for focused learners; and two high schools (Englewood High School and the award winning Colorado’s Finest Alternative High School).

The mission of the Englewood School District is to develop the maximum potential of all students to live fully contributing and satisfying lives in a rapidly changing society. The school disrict’s Core Beliefs focus their energy on meeting the needs of their
customers: the students, families and community members of Englewood. Educators strive for continuous im-provement by valuing every child and every family, providing an environment of opportunity and being fiscally accountable and efficient. All of these efforts result in increased student achievement.

Englewood Schools – a comfortable setting that produces successful learning. With excellent student/teacher ratio and graduation rates, this school district has remained “A Step Ahead” in serving young people in the Denver metro area.

Recognized in 1991 as a Commissioner’s Challenger School by the Colorado Board of Education, CFAHS has been recognized as a School of Excellence in the state many times. The school was also a winner in Redbook magazine’s America’s Best School Project twice (1994 and 1996). All students must earn 23 credits, complete ten proficiencies and score at the eleventh grade level in reading, writing and math prior to receiving a diploma. The geographically diverse student body works with a faculty of experienced professionals who value students highly and become teachers out of love for those students. Teachers have a “family unit” of 25 to 28 students, working as a liaison between home and school.

Offering an exciting, alternative high school experience, Humanex Academy is building on 14 years of success as a private school. For students who want or need to make up lost credits, receive individualized instruction, develop study skills, find a stimulating environment or speed up graduation, Humanex provides an effective option.

Class sizes are limited to seven students or less, pace of instruction is tailored to individuals and students are able to work in an environment where there are fewer distractions. Those attending Humanex Academy may work toward a four-year diploma, receive career and college counseling, have access to a full high school curriculum and take advantage of Internet classes for at-home opportunities.

Arapahoe Community College is Metro Denver’s oldest community college, established in 1964, continues its mission as a world-class, learning-centered community college. Since a group of Littleton residents presented their idea for Arapahoe Junior College nearly 40 years ago, the college has provided an accessible dynamic learning environment.

Arapahoe joined the Colorado Community College and Occupational Education System in 1970 and has continued to grow. Now serving 7,500 students and offering 70 degree and certificate programs, the school added a main building in 1974, a large annex in 1977 and the West Alamo Center in 1990 (home to the art, fine arts, design and technology programs).

Classes are also available at the college’s satellite classroom facility at the Colorado Center for Professional Development in Greenwood Village and at other sites in the south Metro Denver area. Through a unique consortium of Arapahoe Community College, the University of Colorado at Denver, the University of Denver and the Douglas County School District, the University Center at Chaparral near Parker opened in spring, 2001.

Distance learning is a rapidly growing part of the college operations, with growth in telecourses, Web-based instruction and other technology. Always regarded as a leader in higher education, Arapahoe Community College will be well positioned to serve the educational needs of residents and employers in the south metro area in the future.

Englewood also has two private Catholic schools: All-Souls Catholic School and St. Louis Catholic School.
