Just a few short months ago, CommunityLink produced an online magazine for our hometown featuring a handful of grassroots stories from within the community. Among them was the story of how two of the town’s native sons were impacted by the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. One of those two men, Tom Denton, Sr., was a young U.S. Marine stationed at Pearl Harbor at the time of the attack.
Wanting to include video and audio clips as part of the presentation of his story, we recorded our interview with Mr. Denton. What we got was more than just video footage and sound bites; it was history as relayed directly by one of the remarkable men who lived it. It became a labor of love for us to document Mr. Denton’s story and share it with the community, and we invite you to see it as well by clicking this link to the Pinckneyville Mosaic.
The value of documenting, preserving, and passing on stories like these can’t be overstated. These stories become priceless over time, because no matter how much we would like to, we can’t hang on to the people who tell them best forever.
Tom Denton, Sr. passed away this weekend, and it is with deep sadness that we join the rest of our community in saying goodbye to him. We hope that sharing his story with you brings honor to his memory, and that it inspires each of you as leaders within your own communities to continue in recognizing the brave service of your veterans as well.

CommunityLink’s own Matt Price and Josh Chandler recently showed that their talents also extend to the links by making up half of the winning team at the 15th Annual Pinckneyville Chamber of Commerce Golf Scramble. The team was sponsored by Craig Williams Creative / CommunityLink, which is a proud supporter of the chamber here in our hometown of Pinckneyville and a member of every chamber that we publish with.
The victorious team – shown here with the reigning Miss Perry County, Chelsea Crough, and 2009 Mardi Gras Queen Chelsea Reardon – included (L-R) Richard Naumer, Matt Price, Josh Chandler, and Wes Chandler.
Way to go, guys!
